Mary McLeod Bethune (1875–1955) is most known for starting a private school for African-American students which later became Bethune-Cookman University with $1.50.

American educator, philanthropist, humanitarian, womanist, and civil rights activist who founded the National Council of Negro Women in 1935, and the flagship 'Aframerican Women's Journal'.

Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed Mary as a national advisor creating the Federal Council on Colored Affairs, a.k.a. the Black Cabinet; presided over the National Association for Colored Women, the first Black woman to lead a federal agency; and Secretary leading the National Youth Association (NYA).
